August 14th: We were delighted to welcome the first visitors to our apiary today, many of whom remarked on the uniqueness of the opportunity to be able to watch the honey bee go about their business in the observation hive.
The thrill was equally exciting for those who donned a bee suit and ventured into the inner apiary to take part in a hive inspection, many of whom now have signed up for our Saturday bee club or the preliminary beekeeping course, which will run again in 2022.
A huge thanks has to go to our association members who have been working flat out behind the scenes baking, cleaning or gardening, also a special thanks to the front of house staff on hand today who ensured the experience was nothing short of brilliant.
Derry and District Beekeepers would like to express our gratitude to The National Lottery Community Fund, which has been made possible thanks to National Lottery players.
We will be announcing further apiary and beekeeping activities so watch this space 😉
